About UM

Traditions & University Events

The University of Montevallo is home to a number of iconic landmarks and lasting traditions that unite graduates through the years and across generations. While we continue to work toward innovative teaching and curriculum, it is important to us that we preserve our rich traditions which have historically defined what it means to be a part of Montevallo.

University Events

Our primary university-wide events include: Founders’ Day, College Night and Commencement.

In October, Founders’ Day celebrates the founding of our beloved University and some of our traditions such as the Hiding of the Crook.

Our unique Homecoming tradition of College Night must be experienced to fully grasp the magnitude of this event. On the second Saturday of February, students, alumni, family and friends join for the final night theatrical productions of College Night. But there is so much more!

The University holds two Commencement ceremonies each for Fall Graduation in December and Spring Graduation in May.

We welcome you to learn more about these University events and visit campus to experience them.
